External Advisory Board

The RINNO External Advisory Board (EAB) comprises of academic and industry experts across the different areas of the project. The role of the EAB is to help and guide the project consortium by giving an independent perspective on its plans, the project’s progress and suggesting opportunities for maximising impact.

Daniel Herrera Ph.D
DANIEL is an architect graduate at the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Spain, and specialized in energy retrofit of historic buildings with a doctorate focused on the interaction between user behaviour and building physics in the built heritage (Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, UK). Since 2017, Daniel is a Senior Researcher at the Eurac Research in the group of Energy Retrofit of Historic Buildings.Daniels work in the development of retrofit solutions with a focus on experimental testing onsite and in the laboratory. He has a wide experience both in academia and industry practice having worked in research and renovation projects across Spain, Italy, and the UK.
Graham Deane
Graham co-founded air disinfection unit manufacturer Novaerus in 2010, managing product development and supply chain for the rapidly growing global business. Novaerus is now part of the WellAir group. Prior to this, he served as Group Operations Director for Caterpillar Ireland and in a number of management positions within Fortune 500 companies such as Xilinx, and Flextronics. He has an MSc from Dublin City University. As co-founder and COO of UrbanVolt, Graham has his sights set on making sustainability profitable for businesses - encouraging wider adoption and subsequently contributing to the fight against climate change. With sustainability projects across the globe saving over 62.5 million kWh of electricity in 2019 alone, Graham and UrbanVolt are well on track to achieve their mission of radically reducing global energy consumption.
Irene Skoula
IRENE serves as the technical expert on Energy and Buildings helping C40 cities deliver ambitious actions in line with the goals of the Paris agreement, through initiatives to deliver zero carbon new buildings by 2030 and all buildings by 2050 and increase low carbon energy supply as part of the global grid decarbonization required by 2050. She previously managed the Clean Energy Network at C40, which is focused on supporting cities plan and implement ambitious low carbon energy programs for electricity, heating or cooling that will help them reduce their greenhouse gases. Irene has also acted as an interim network manager for private building efficiency and was previously the C40 City Advisor for Athens, where she facilitated the delivery of the first GPC-compliant GHG inventory for the city and a fully-integrated Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Action Plan.
Maria Kaltsa
MARIA is a practicing architect for over 30 years and an expert on sustainability with regards to the decaying built environment in large cities. Maria has crafted policies for the rehabilitation of lagging urban parts in Athens. Maria has served as appointed advisor to the Mayor on Urban Design and Sustainability, where she was engaged in several of Municipal projects. Her current work “on planning policy for urban energy poverty” focuses on the scale of impact of energy efficiency interventions, and the investigation of retrofits of entire deprived neighbourhoods via the conversion of their multifamily-multistory residential buildings to passive ones. She designs extensively nZEB buildings and has recently licensed the first new passive multistory residential building in Athens.
Rizal Sebastian
RiIZAL is a full-time Professor and Chair of the Research Group ‘Future Urban Systems – Digital Transformation’ at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. His roles include being a senior advisor to RVO,The Netherlands Enterprise Agency, with regards to digitalisation in the built environment. Rizal holds a BSc degree in Architectural Design, MSc in Construction Management and PhD in Architectural Project Management. He has over 22 years of professional experience as architect, project manager, consultant, scientist and research director. Until recently, he was the Innovation Lead of Digitalisation in Construction at TNO. He has managed more than 30 national and international research projects with a total grant exceeding 100 million euros.
Tomás Mac Eoin
TOMÁS is the Managing Director of ‘McKeon Group’, a Multidisciplinary Construction Group, and CEO of ‘Hereworks’, a Workplace Technology Specialist and Master Systems Integrator (MSI). Tomás has an impressive background of 20+ years in the technology and Construction industries, has a deep understanding of multiple technical areas and is a current member of the Institute of Engineers Ireland (MIEI). As CEO of Hereworks, Tomás is passionate about finding innovative ways to deliver MSI services to improve the human building interaction and sustainability of Smart Buildings. Tomás’ leadership and strategic focus is on enabling sustainable growth, key partnerships and the international expansion of McKeon Group & Hereworks.
